Grenada & The Rainforest of Reading
The State of Grenada consists of three islands- Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique which form the southern end of the Windward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. Grenada is a constitutional monarchy, with a Prime Minister and Queen Elizabeth II as Head of State, represented by the Governor General. Formerly a British Colony, Grenada became independent in 1974.
Sometimes people call Grenada "The Island of Spice" because it is one of the world's largest growers and exporters of nutmeg and mace. Grenada has competed in every Summer Olympics since the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Kirani James from the village of Gouyave won the first Olympic gold medal for Grenada in the men's 400 meters.
